Frieze New York returns for its 10th year in New York, again at the Shed, with several satellite art fairs taking place all over the city this weekend. Here’s a guide to our favorites, some in brand-new locations.
Frieze New York 2022
Located at the Shed, Frieze will display 66 galleries. The favorite art fair can be pricey, with a preview admission on Thursday at $200 per ticket; Friday at $120-$155; and general admission over the weekend at $70-$85. 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair
The fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and the African diaspora is relocating to a new venue: Harlem Parish, a church built in 1897. It has brought on Novella Ford, associate director of public programs and exhibitions at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, as forum curator. General admission tickets are $20. The Photography Show Presented by AIPAD
The Photography Show, presented by the Association of International Photography Dealers, is moving from Pier 94 to a new venue, Center415, where more than 49 exhibitors from nine countries will take part in the photo expo’s 41st edition, on Fifth Avenue. Fridge Art Fair
Fridge is returning to its first venue, Gallery OneTwentyEight on Rivington Street, where it is teaming up with other galleries. This year’s interactive fair, with performance art and indoor and outdoor installations, is dedicated to the concept of peace. Admission is free. Volta New York
Volta offers 49 international galleries and is presenting this year at 548 West 22nd Street, the former Dia Building. Volta, which debuted at Basel in 2005 as a “collaboration between dealers and friends,” focuses on providing a platform for younger galleries to participate in the art markets of major cities. Salon Zürcher
The Bleecker Street gallery’s 26th edition will showcase the works of 11 female artists in “11 Women of Spirit,” a show inspired by the 18th-century French term femmes d’esprit, referring to the era’s female painters and intellectuals underrecognized by their male contemporaries.
